Year 4 enjoy ‘A day in the life of a Clifton student’

On Tuesday the 17th of June, we were pleased to welcome Year 4 students from Herringthorpe Junior School, who came to Clifton for a visit to look around the school, as well as taking the opportunity to sample the variety of lessons we have on offer.

The students had a wonderful experience; they were able to look at the layout and organisation of the school day & even had the chance to peek into some of the classrooms to see the learning that was taking place.

The students then visited Cafe Oasis, where they were able to ask questions about the lunch time routine and find out more about the dinner cards; looking at how students pay for school meals and the choices that were available for school lunch.

Following a fantastic morning, the children were able to experience a science lesson wearing goggles and using Newton Meters to find the weight of various objects. The students left feeling like they had become real scientists for the day!

¡Oiga camarero! – Y10s bringing languages to life

With just a few months of Spanish lessons under their belt, our Y10s put their Spanish to good use this Wednesday with a trip to La Tasca in Meadowhall. It’s not quite Las Ramblas in Barcelona, but passers-by would never have known the difference listening to the Spanish spoken by all!

Students realised just how much they had learnt when, with the help of La Tasca’s Spanish waiter, students ordered for themselves a selection of traditional tapas to share without speaking a word of English! They also answered a variety of questions about themselves and experienced a very traditional Spanish experience.

Paella, prawns, Spanish Tortilla and croquetas de Manchego were tried by all!

¡Buen trabajo chicos!

Year 10 London Art Trip

On Thursday 22nd of May, Mrs Cottrill, Miss Latham and twenty-three Y10 art students took the train to London in search of some inspiration for their GCSE art coursework. First stop was the Tate Modern; the imposing former Bankside Power Station building that is home to international modern and contemporary art. Students got to see work by artists such as Picasso, Matisse and Duchamp. After grabbing some pretty tasty milkshakes in the Turbine Hall, it was on to Spitalfields and Brick Lane for a fantastic tour of London’s rich and diverse urban art scene. Around the winding back streets they saw works by world renowned artists such as Banksy, Invader and ROA, the sun was shining and they even got to see two international graffiti artists live in action!

After some well needed pizza and sleep, the group awoke refreshed on the Friday morning and headed off to South Kensington in search of precious jewels, woolly mammoths and dinosaurs at the Natural History Museum. Leaving with drawings, photographs and gift shop memorabilia, the group made a final trip to see Big Ben and soak in the sights of Westminster and the Thames before taking the tube back to collect their cases and begin the journey back to Rotherham.

A great time was had by all and Mrs Cottrill and Miss Latham were extremely proud of how mature and well behaved our fantastic Y10 pupils were and will definitely be making a return trip next year!
