Yorkshire Boxing Champion!

A massive congratulations to Junaid in Year 8 who has won the title of Yorkshire Boxing Championship after a gallant fight for the title! Well Done!

A Fairy Good Time!

On Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th April, parents and the public were delighted by the talents of Clifton pupils in Years 7-10 performing this year’s School Show: ‘Hijacked Fairytales’.

Pupils have been rehearsing every week since January and have worked really hard to develop their characters.

Live music was provided by Clifton Soul Band with the award-winning ‘Respect’ being used in the finale.

We had guest appearances from local primary school pupils, who put on an impressive performance as the 11 Dwarves and The Pied Piper Rats.

Pupils really developed their performance skills over the two nights and we had some great comments from the audience.  Well done all!

Sky Sports ‘Living For Sports’ Mentor

The school was delighted to receive a visit from Sky Sports ‘Living for Sports’ Mentor, Paul Broadbent, on Tuesday 28th April 2015.  Paul spent the whole day in school working with a range of pupils within PE.  He started the day giving a motivational talk to Year 11 in their assembly.  Paul highlighted the importance for the pupils to prepare well for their exams and that with the right attitude, anything is possible.

Paul spent the first lesson of the day delivering a similar message to a group of Year 7 pupils, sharing the message that no matter where you start in life, with the right attitude and determination you can achieve great things!  The group also engaged in some physical challenges to see who had the ‘right attitude’.

For the second lesson, Paul delivered a session to two GCSE PE groups on the importance of a good diet in order to performance at elite level.  This went down really well and gave the pupils a great introduction to the topic.

During the third session, Paul delivered a rugby skills to another Year 7 group, which was full of fun games that the pupils loved and were fully engaged in.

For the last lesson, Paul worked again with his first group on team games.  The energy levels of the group were fantastic and lots of smiling faces left the Sports Hall at the end of the day.

A fantastic day for all the pupils, who were excited to meet a former Sheffield Eagles and Great Britain rugby league legend: we are all looking forward to Paul‘s next visit!

Movement Evening 2015

Tuesday 21st April brought the community together again for Clifton Community School’s annual ‘Movement Evening’.

There were feathers galore and that was just from the penguins! The lights and pyrotechnics were the best yet and helped our students look professional on stage.

We had guest performers this year from the local primary schools, who get together and practice on a Saturday at Clifton, as well as the Year 10 BTEC group from Rawmarsh Community School, who wowed with their rendition of Cell Block Tango.

Our own Year 9’s were amazing with the few boys stealing the show at times. There were many smiles within the audience and great comments from them after. A great night by all!!

DVDs of the evening are FREE for students from the school. In the mean time, here are a couple of sneak peaks from this fabulous event:

Cricket Round-Up

The cricket season is well and truly underway at Clifton Community School, with some impressive displays by our various teams over the past two weeks! Here’s a round-up:.

Year 7

The Year 7 team started off with a win against a very good Swinton side. The match was reduced to 16 overs and Clifton won the toss and elected to field.

The boys restricted Swinton to 72 for 4, with 42 wides and no balls. Ashley Hambleton was the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 14 off 3 overs. Clifton’s innings followed a similar theme to Swinton’s with 56 of the 73 runs coming in wides and no balls, the innings was tense and thrilling going down to the last over with two needed. Clifton got over the line with 2 bye’s of the penultimate ball.

Year 8

The Y8 Cricket boys kicked off their season with a victory away at St Pius. They put St Pius into bat and our team bowled really well; restricting the opposition to 57 runs. Amaan Ghani took a hat trick! The boys went into bat and set about the total, getting themselves over the line for the loss of only 1 wicket (a comedy stumping of Hassan Ali). Josh Woodcock managed an unbeaten 22 runs!

Following their victory at St Pius, the team played a tense game at Maltby Academy. The bowling attack was particularly impressive as debutant Arman Zaheri took a wicket with only his second ball. We restricted Maltby to 77 for 3. A superb knock by Hassan Ali (34) brought us into contention but once he was removed our run rate slowed considerably. We ended our innings at 71 for 6 which left us 7 runs short of victory.

At both games, the boys were an absolute credit to the school and represented Clifton with passion and pride.

Year 10

The Year 10 Cricket team represented the school with great distinction against Swinton last week. Some of the bowling was truly excellent, though the fielding fell short of our usual standard and as a result we allowed Swinton to score 109 from their allotted 18 overs. Brandon and Jack and then Lewis did their best to rebuild the innings but we were always behind the rate and finished 40 runs short. It was a lovely evening and the boy’s behaviour was excellent.
