Gold, Silver, Bronze Awards!

Over the last term, students in every year group have been awarded with Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes for their aspirational attitude towards effort, attendance and punctuality.

Three times a year, students will receive a credit score based on average effort, attendance and punctuality. These credits are quantified, with top achievers receiving either a Gold, Silver or Bronze award depending on the number of credits received.

Students who won awards received a signed certificate from Mr Hardcastle, a letter of congratulations home, and a Clifton Community School Gold, Silver or Bronze pin, which they can wear on their school jumpers or cardigans.

Congratulations to all our winners:

Robot Wars

The Prince’s Trust organised a two-day “Robot Wars” event with some of our students.

The event began with students meeting John Findlay, founder and owner of ‘Roaming Robots’ the company behind the TV show ‘Robot Wars’. He even introduced them to the famous ‘Matilda’ robot!

The event was designed for students to improve teamwork, communication and designing skills with this unique project. By the end of the two days, each team had to produce a robot which then competed to fight the instructor’s robot.

The students worked really well together and thrived within the hands-on setting.

Willmott Dixon Project

Beginning on Monday the 8th June, Clifton Community School students took part in the Willmott Dixon “Opening Doors” project to Work Experience and Apprenticeship Opportunities.

Students from Year 9 and Year 10 were selected and the project started with a 5 day ‘Opportunity Knocks’ programme that gave students an introduction into the construction industry. This involved:

> Health and Safety

> Customer Care

> Trade sessions including plastering, painting, and carpentry.

This was a fantastic opportunity and the boys completing the 5 day project will now go on to a work experience placement with a dedicated mentor from Willmott Dixon.

The feedback from the boys was very positive and they are now looking forward to the next stage!

Year 7 students on ImanFM

Following on from last week’s Year 10 visit to the ImanFM studios, three enthusiastic Year 7 students went along this weekend as guest of honour on Ms Shoaib’s weekly show. Laura, Deniz and Joseph, all in 7.7, were professional and enthusiastic throughout the visit. We were very proud of their conduct on the show: they were an absolute credit to the school! One of the students described the day as “the best school trip I’ve ever been on” and, like the boys last week, all three were invited back should they ever wish to be guests in the future – Well done!

Summer Music Concert

Come along to our Summer Music Concert on Tuesday 30th June 2015!

The evening begins at 6.30pm: Tickets are available from Mrs Houlbrook in the P5 Music Workroom.

We look forward to seeing you there!!

iMAN FM Radio Station Visit

On Saturday 6th June, two Clifton students were special guests on iMAN FM, on a show hosted by our very own Ms Shoaib. The students, Connor and Mason, were also given an insight into how a radio station runs, including training and a demonstration of how they makes jingles!

The boys did an incredible job and they represented the school with maturity and enthusiasm. They came across so well that the station has even asked them to come back as guests in the future! – Well done boys!
