Wickersley Music Festival 2016

We are continuing to develop our young musician of the year competition into a music festival and would like to invite your school choir/ band/ instrumentalists to take part this year.

In this instance, we would like the festival to be a showcase of musical talent. Many of your schools have choirs and percussion groups or good instrumentalists and we would like to give them the opportunity to perform at Wickersley School. All groups/ soloists receive a wonderful glass trophy and certificate of achievement.

Normally we have various musical categories and groups/soloists perform 1 piece of music before the audience and judging panel. This year we would like to have primary sections featuring the groups or individual pupils from our feeder primaries. This is a wonderful opportunity for your musicians and singers and we are keen to develop this project. We are looking to run this event on the evening of Thursday 25th February at Wickersley School and Sports College. Starting at 6pm.

Life in the Music Department

Life in the Music Department is always busy – but that’s the why we love it!  The classrooms and practice rooms are packed at breaks and after school with pupils forming groups for the upcoming Battle of the Bands in May and rehearsals for Little Shop are in full swing.  The Vail Expression are rehearsing whenever they can following the launch of the Y10 band at the Christmas Concert.

In lessons, Mr Griffin’s Y7s are learning about African Drumming and Mrs Maud’s Y8s are songwriting.  Y9 are about to make their choices for KS4, with many already showing an interest in the Rockschool course.  Y11 Rockschool pupils are currently working on their final exam for which they must prepare and perform a 15 minute recital.  Y10 are already exceeding their likely targets by showing real determination and commitment to developing as musicians.

The department is truly buzzing!

Theatre Trip

Some of our Year 10 English students recently took a trip to The Lyceum Theatre in Sheffield to watch a production of ‘An Inspector Calls’ from the National Theatre.

As well as being a truly enjoyable experience for the students, they were also able to pick up some excellent insight into the play by viewing a live production. This will no doubt be invaluable to the pupils as they continue their GCSE work.

Sky Sports Leaders

Clifton pupils have been working along side Paul Broadbent as part of the Sky Sports ‘Living for Sports’ Programme.
As part of the programme, the pupils have had the opportunity to take on the role of a sports leaders, which included planning and delivering a session to older students!
As always, our leaders did Clifton proud they were excellent ambassadors for the school. It was clear that they had taken on board some very important life skills from the project as a whole.
