Rugby Kit Designed By Our Own Students

Yesterday Mr Fisher took 4 students to Laund Hill YMCA in Huddersfield to take part in a workshop with representatives of Canterbury Sportswear and the RFU to design a Rugby shirt for our School.

It was about involving pupils who love participating in sport so we took Neve and Joshua from Y7 along with Sathurja and Finley from Y8.

The pupils had to come up with their individual designs and then agree on one and finalise it.

Josh then pitched our finished idea to all the other schools. He did this in a really confident and mature manner which was commented on by the organisers.

The pupils were really proud of their finished design which incorporated several features connected to our school badge and ‘High Expectations’ motto. Their sense of teamwork, support of each other and their general conduct was a pleasure to witness.

Our design will be produced and the next time we see it the school Rugby team will proudly wear 20 shirts that were designed by our very own!

Y8 Football First 11 Side Fixture Of The Season

Tonight was our first 11 a side fixture again last years cup winners Aston, which saw a few new faces line up for Clifton.

We started the game well on a very large pitch for the lads, Aston quickly got in their stride being a larger and stronger team. They soon made that pay going into a 3 goal lead. From the kick off we decided to start playing some football. A series of one touch passes saw Josh one on one with the keeper, Josh confidently went around him and placed the ball into the net. 3-1 at half time.

After a rousing team talk the lads went out confIdently and soon scored through a cross from Owen landing at Finley’s feet who placed the ball into the top corner 3-2. We started pressing further and made their keep make a couple of saves. Pushing for the equaliser we left gaps in defence and Astons quick strikers made us pay with a further 3 goals against a tiring team. Resulting in a final score of 6-2 to Aston, the lads played really well against a very strong team. On wards and up wards for this team who will only get better during the coming weeks!

Special mention to Nader Ali, Henrik Olah, Mohammad Cardesa and Roland Varady who made their first appearance for Clifton tonight and impeccably represented Clifton. Another mention for Kurtis Rich who put in a Man of the Match display in despite being injured.

Well done to the students on their efforts.

Excellence in English

This week, the English department have nominated their first students for the new ‘Excellence in English’ award!

To be nominated for this, students have to show consistent effort and be enthusiastic in every English lesson as well as involving themselves with class discussions and be working hard to reach their target grade.

Deserving students from KS3 and KS4 will be nominated weekly by their English teachers. These are the ‘Superior Students of the Week’.  The names of these students will then be displayed on the board on the English corridor and parents will receive a text home in recognition of their childs’ achievements.

At the end of every half term, a draw of all of the Superior Students will be made and the two winners will have a photograph taken for the display, receive a certificate and a letter home to celebrate their success in becoming our Excellence in English award winners.
