Hairspray Trip Sheffields’ Lyceum Theatre

The Y10 Drama and Dance students were invited to watch Hairspray at Sheffields’ Lyceum Theatre on Thursday 1st Feb. Some of the cast were straight out of the original London stage show, so we knew it was going to be a good one. We arrived in plenty of time for ice creams and minstrels  (that was just Mrs Bittles-Kincaid).

Hairspray certainly had all the energy and buzz expected of a Broadway show. Some of our girls got very excited when Seeweed threw out some of his amazing shapes on stage.  It certainly was an all singing all dancing fabulous experience celebrating the changes of times and acceptance.  The show was full of vibrant colours, amazing dancing and spine tingly voices.

Year 9 Options Evening Success

On January 31st, year 9 parents and students attended a combined parental and options evening, giving our young people the opportunity to discuss with all staff what courses are available to them as they prepare to pick their GCSE courses. We had a very positive turn out, it was encouraging to see so many students having prepared questions and discussing their future prospects, whether it be higher education, apprenticeships and potential future careers.

Our students will now have the time and opportunity to discuss options with Senior Learning Team staff, throughout March, before making their final decisions.

Y11 Snatch Defeat From The Jaws of Victory

Having won a close game 2-1 the last time we locked horns with Wickersley, we knew that we were going to face a tough battle on a sticky surface. We started slightly the better of the two teams and were passing the ball confidently but chances were few and far between for either side. We took the lead through Faisal Khairy with a shot from outside the area that caught the home keeper by surprise. We held our lead until the break.

We were aware that Wickersley would carry the fight to us in the second half. They did this in the opening minutes when two brilliant blocks from full back Jack Johnson preserved our lead. At the other end we were struggling to create many chances and a similar goal to our opener drew the home side level.

We came out and played more on the front foot with Wickersley playing on the break. They were still creating the clearer chances though and a breakaway led to a one on one with the forward rounding keeper Rio Barker. Jack somehow managed to get back and scramble the ball off the line.

It looked as though both sides would have to settle for a draw but with 30 seconds to go more heroic blocks in our defence gained no reward as Wickersley managed to steal the win. Disappointment for our boys but lots of heart and effort and great conduct. Louis Waterhouse gained the man of the match award. He was pushed all the way by skipper Brendan Walker.

South Yorkshire Cross Country Championships February 2018

Mrs. Reed had the absolute pleasure of taking Malak, Alex and Ellie to the South Yorkshire Cross-Country Champs on Saturday 3rd February and despite the freezing, wet, muddy conditions, the three of them were a real credit to Clifton.

The final results are not in yet, but in the meantime, please congratulate them on their immense efforts in such challenging conditions.
Well done, guys!
