Year 8 Stem 3D Printing Trip

On Tuesday 13th March Mr Brown and eleven Y8 Clifton students were give a rare opportunity to attend a 3D printing event at the AMRC in Sheffield. Only 3 other school from the Yorkshire area where given the opportunity to attend this event.

In the morning session students got to see how state of the art virtual reality and simulation equipment is used by companies such as Boeing, Roll Royce, and McLaren F1 to help the design, developed and eventually build all of their latest cars/planes and engines. Great fun and learning been had by all of the students with the highlights been the welding competition, with the girls showing the boys how it’s done, and the virtual reality experience allowing the students to take a car engine apart and see how it works …. Without even getting their hands dirty!!

The second part of the day saw the students designing an implant that could be used on a person who had suffered a head injury, going through all the processes from the initial design of the implant using the same Computer Aided Design (CAD) software that we have recently had installed at Clifton, right up to the programming and using the state of the art 3D printers to 3D print their implant design.

Great fun, learning, and new experiences where had by both staff and students. The students been extremely well behaved throughout and took on every challenge without any hesitation proving themselves to be a credit to the school. They should all be extremely proud of themselves.

Y11 Musicians Are Outstanding In Their Final Performances

The Y11 RSL Musicians have been working on their Live Performance exams since January.  For this exam each pupil must plan, rehearse, perform and evaluate a 10-15 minute set made up of solos and ensemble songs.  All pupils performed last week in a series of four concerts over two days, demonstrating true professionalism and excellent musicianship.

Our Y11 musicians have worked incredibly hard in preparation for their final performances and have supported each other in developing their confidence to succeed.  We are now looking forward to receiving the results in the summer.  Well done to all involved!
