An Evening of Shuttlecocks & Rackets

Yesterday Mr Slack had the pleasure of accompanying a few very keen students to a Badminton fixture at Wales School. It was an absolute delight to see students who wouldn’t normally participate in extra-curricular activities coming out of their shells, getting involved and doing themselves & the school proud.

After many weeks of pestering from the students, the fixture was arranged and they were faced against some equally enthusiastic players from Wales. Most of them were extremely talented, played for their own badminton club and would have given me and Mr Fisher a run for our money.

Our kids showed true spirit pairing up and playing 2 against 1 to make sure everyone got a fair game. It was especially nice to see Isbah being talked into picking up a racket and getting involved despite her nerves!

The evening was an absolute success with the coach from Wales eager to return the favour and bring his students to Clifton for a rematch after Easter!

Well done to the following students:

Zanerrah
Saman
Qirath
Isbah
Sameeah
Khalida
Musa
Kashif
Fayzaan
Ashley
Siyam

Mosaic Collaborative Project

Yesterday, Miss Southern had the pleasure of taking three of our y9 students to Sheffield to work with the local Artist Coralie Turpin. A while ago we were approached by the Friends of Ulley to work on a Project to celebrate 10 years since the flood of 2007.

The old spillway of Ulley country Park is to be transformed into an area to sit and enjoy, the walls of the Spillway are to be decorated with Mosaics made by the Local community and charity groups, with the Artist making a large Mosaic Installation.

This was a collaborative project arranged by Clifton to work alongside Rawmarsh and Wickersley staff and students. Only 3 students from each school had the opportunity to go, we each made a Mosaic to represent each school and to celebrate the 10 years. Over the last few months our y9 students have been working on design ideas and yesterday they had the opportunity make their ideas a reality using ceramic Mosaic tiles.

All of the students were a credit to themselves and Clifton.  Well done to Liberty, Phoebe and Dylan.

Artist of the week

Miss Charlton’s Artist of the week is the talented Caleb in Y8.
Caleb puts in 100% effort in all his lessons, he has created this lovely masterpiece, he has designed and built up his very own mixed media Cell. Caleb has used lots of different materials to create a range of surface textures and with control, he has added lots of smooth blending of painted tones to highlight his detail. I think you’ll agree that his work is amazing! Well done!
Miss Green’s Artist of the week is Smilte in Y11 Textiles.
Smilte has created a fabric flower and applied paint delicately to create the soft petal tones, Smilte then machine embroidered areas of the flower. She then selected a contrasting background to present it on. Beautiful work, well done!
