“Qualification Success at Clifton Community School”
Written by Keith Grainger
“During the summer holidays, the Achieve club at Clifton Community School in Rotherham were celebrating some outstanding qualification results. Not only had the group achieved the PDE Award qualification with flying colours, it is believed there are the very first club in the North to successfully complete the new two unit award programme. This pairs up two units, Teamwork and Interpersonal and Self-Management Skills, over a course of twelve sessions and is designed as a whole ‘package’ with workbooks, session plans and suggestions, resources and tracking sheets. The school really took to the programme, and the club members responded in an overwhelmingly positive fashion, resulting in some fabulous feedback on the EV verification report. ‘Learners have participated in a variety of engaging activities that support development of assessment criteria. Witness statements and mind maps are fully annotated and have been used to great effect. All Evidence fully meets assessment criteria’. Achieve club Adviser Rita Marshall and colleagues at the school are really proud of their young people’s achievements and the attached photo shows the display which was the first thing they saw on returning to school last week! ‘Completing the Princes Trust level 1 in Personal Development and Employability Skills has given our students a target to achieve over the summer term. The incentive that we as a group would be one of the first in the North of England to complete the award was a challenge they relished – The award has seen our students work as a team to complete their own work and support and encourage others to do the same. It has created discussion and raised aspirations, reflection on personal development, skills and future plans. It has been a great programme which stretches students in a positive way’. Cranworth Road Team @ Clifton Community School The below reactions and comments of some of the young people sum up the pride they feel in successfully completing the qualification. Dezidera- ‘I’m good then after all’ Maria- ‘I’ve never had a certificate before’ Katirina- ‘ I’m so happy’ Alex- ‘That’s good init’ Robyn- ‘My mum will be pleased’”
