The Curriculum

Clifton students follow a curriculum outlined by the government but adapted to ensure they reach their full potential. We know that not every student is the same. To achieve the best from our students we identify their needs and endeavour to fulfil them.

Therefore, students are grouped based on ability and their lessons are designed to not only meet their needs but ensure they feel challenged and engaged.

All students follow a timetable of 20 lessons per week.

Students who require additional support will be removed from Spanish lessons to study English and Maths intervention lessons.

In Y7 & 8, students all follow a fixed KS3 curriculum, comprising a broad and balanced curriculum as outlined below.

In Y9, students will study 4 mini options from a wide range of available options. They will have one lesson per week of each and these subjects act as a taster to their KS4 final options.

During KS4, students will study their core subjects alongside the subjects they have chosen as their options. A list of the full subjects available to take as an option can be found on our subjects page.

A breakdown of the lessons taught at KS4 can be found below.  Core subjects are highlighted in red and every student will take part in these lessons.

Students who require intervention/additional support will study towards 2 or 3 options and work with the learning mentors to further support their study in other subjects.

For further information on the curriculum, please contact the relevant faculty leader or Mrs. K Wade, kwade@cliftonschool.org.

Year 9

During year 9, with the help of their teachers and parents, pupils choose some of the subjects they are going to study for the following two years. An additional meeting for parents and pupils about subject options is held and you will have the opportunity to talk with the subject specialists about how to make the best choices.

Once they have made their choices, each pupil is interviewed by an experienced member of staff to make sure they have chosen wisely.
