On the 6th of March 2014, a group of students from Clifton Community School were invited to share their work at esteemed ‘The Hepworth Gallery’ along with other young people from
across the country. All of the groups, two from Rotherham, Brighton, Sheffield and Wakefield are participating in the international ‘Imagine’ project run by Professor Kate Pahl from the University of Sheffield.
The students, all girls from Year Seven upwards, got a chance to see the current exhibitions at the Hepworth and recreated them in interesting ways. In addition to this, each group shared an activity so by the end of the day they had analysed paintings, created representations of themselves on DVD cases, wrote letters to themselves for the future and fashioned a tree of resilience.
The girls also got to present their own work – something which was unique to the group. Each young person discussed one piece that they had created and how that represented their imagined better futures. The event was also filmed by a film-maker provided by the gallery! The project will culminate with a final exhibition at the Millennium Galleries in Sheffield.
We are very proud of the girls involved and all the hard work they have put into the project.
