Y7 Football Team Celebrate A 4-2 Victory Against Rawmarsh

Last night was the Y7’s quarter final cup match against Rawmarsh. Thankfully we saved our best performance of the season for tonight coming out a 4-2 victory in a dominant performance what flattered Rawmarsh.

The game started with us on top creating a few early chances with balls from Jensen and David finding Finley upfront was unlucky not to get on the score sheet early hitting both the post and making the Rawmarsh keeper pull off a number great saves. It was only a matter of time before our dominance paid off, 5 minutes in a ball through by Omar was raced onto be Finley and dispatched into the bottom corner. Our early dominance continued when a long ball from Luke again found Finley and again he found the bottom corner. Rawmarsh were finding it hard to cope with our intensity and a third followed. A free kick 25 yards out into the top corner from Finley again. 3-0. Towards the end of the first half, Rawmarsh had a corner which was headed due to poor defending. 3-1 at HT.

The second half started as it did in the first with Clifton on top. Creating plenty of chances but failing to find that fourth goal. Eventually, it came from a long range effort from Jensen and we got a feeling the job was done. Towards the end of the second half, Rawmarsh got a consolation to make it 4-2 but it was our day.

All of the lads were exceptional today and their hard work and commitment were something that is becoming a feature with this team. It was also great to see so much support from both staff and students coming down to watch.

The night was summed up when a few of the Rawmarsh lads complained that Clifton Team are ‘too good!’

Please congratulate the lads on their performance and on reaching the semi-final.

Said Jamal Picked As A Finalist

As many of you will know, we nominated Said Jamal in Y11 for a Youth Sport Trust award which recognises young people who have shown resilience, leadership and determination through sport.

Said was picked as a finalist for this award from an extremely high number of entries.

Last night we attended the presentation dinner at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. Sadly Said did not receive the overall award as this went to another remarkable young man who had also overcome a great many difficulties in his life and is now inspiring others in the world of tennis. However, we were far from being disappointed as to even get to this stage was incredible.

During the course of the evening, Said was lucky enough to meet Kate Richardson Walsh, captain of the gold medal-winning Olympic hockey team and the team of amazing women who rowed across the Atlantic.

It was an amazing evening and as always Said was a fabulous ambassador for Clifton, sport and young people in general.

Y7 Boys Football Success

Today the y7 boys hosted Maltby. The game kicked off in Usual y7 style with both teams attacking frantically. The first 20 minutes was a case of who took their chances better and unfortunately for Clifton it was Maltby who were the more clinical. Clifton found themselves 3-0 down with Maltby only having 3 shots on target! After some management changes and players being deployed in different areas Clifton struck back after the Maltby centre half handled in the area (definite penalty and great refereeing by MRO) Finley chadburn dispatched the pen with ease. Clifton were really pushing on now and some delightful skill from Josh Humpries the Maltby full back tried to kick Josh over the fence . Another penalty awarded (again great refereeing from MRO) this time Josh dispatched the pen away with ease. Halt time 3-2 in Maltbys favour but Clifton were back in the game! The second half started and Clifton were displaying some football that the older year groups would be proud of. Some slick moves, amazing work rate, and a real desire to win . Clifton pegged Maltby back 3-3 Josh Humpries turning his man inside out not once but several times and he fired into the bottom corner for a great solo goal . Maltbys heads were dropping and Cliftons pressure was relentless.  A goal mouth scramble in the Maltby area fell kindly to Marian Ziga who lashed and I mean lashed the ball home into an empty net from 1 yard! 4-3 and the lads were wanting more. Their keeper made save after save and we hit the woodwork again and again then the ball dropped to Finley Chadburn who struck a dipping half volley from 25 yard which flew into the top corner. 5-3 and we could smell a well deserved victory. With the game coming to a close Josh whipped in a corner and Billaal Farooq leaped at the back post to head an unstoppable header past the goalkeeper. 6-3 and we were in dream land . The final whistle blew and cheers rang around the astro turf . A well deserved victory and an outstanding and by far the best performance so far by our y7 boys !!!!! Myself and Adam could not have asked for more and this has really made both ours and the boys have a great start to the weekend .

Come on you Y7’s!

Well done
