Following an 8-8 draw the last time we faced Wath we were fully expecting a high scoring encounter as we travelled there on Saturday morning. That was exactly what we got as we ended up on the wrong side of a 5-3 scoreline.
We started well and the game was very tight in the early stages. Jose Santana was driving the midfield with some powerful runs and we created a couple of decent chances. Wath were also looking dangerous and it was they who took the lead after hesitation in our back line.
We continued to play our game and soon found ourselves level with a well worked goal, finished well by Amaan Ghani. The game continued to be tight with neither side really able to get on top. It was Wath who once more made the break through though to lead 2-1. We dusted ourselves down and once more drew level quickly. This time Connor Coady drilled home after excellent work from Louis Waterhouse.
2-2 at the break and it was us who nudged ourselves in front. This time our man of the match Jose scored with a superb curling effort from outside the penalty area. If we could have held on to his lead for 5 minutes, we may have managed to go on and win but Wath stormed back level very quickly. The game turned on Louis coming off with a back injury. We lost some of our momentum going forward.
Wath capitalised on this and as our boys began to tire on a big pitch they scored twice to put the game beyond us.
