The Y8 Football team were well beaten this evening in their tussle against St Bernard’s.

The boys are still adapting to playing on grass having spent most of last season on a flat Astro turf surface.

The early exchanges were even and Finlay had a couple of half chances for us. We didn’t manage to trouble the St Bernard’s Goalkeeper though and frustratingly we conceded first after a long ball was not cut out by our rearguard. The lads kept trying to play but we were slower to the 50-50 balls and more hesitancy saw the home side extend their advantage.

2-0 at the break gave us work to do in the second half. Once more the team showed a good attitude and despite a well struck 3rd goal for St Bernard’s we at last got a foothold in the game with a well taken finish from front man Marek.

That was to be the high point of the game for us though as St Bernard’s forced Dylan into a smart stop at his far post. We failed to hold out though and 2 more strikes gave the hosts a 5-1 victory.

Credit to the lads for staying together and battling hard. We know that we are capable of beating St Bernards as we proved it last season. The challenge is to prove it again the next time the two sides clash.

David was our man of the match.
