A much better display by the Y8’s this week. With a much changed team to previous weeks the lads showed the effort and commitment which had been lacking slightly, leaving us on the end of an unfortunate 2-0 defeat to a really strong Wickersley team!
The first half started with a real high tempo with some hard but fair tackles. Very few opportunities were created as both defences were on top, with one of the only chances were if the first half Wickersley took the lead after a defensive mix up lead to their striker placing it neatly into the bottom corner. This woke us up and we were on top for the remaining 10 minutes of the first half with their keep pulling of a couple of good saves including one of the best saves I’ve seen from a keeper of this age as the ball was flying into the top corner from Finley’s left boot was tipped onto the corner of the crossbar. 1-0 at HT.
The second half started very similar to the first with both defences on top again. We were on top again creating a few chance through Finley and Josh but we didn’t have that cutting edge to make one count. With 7 minutes left Wickersley doubled their lead from a free kick played into the box which produced a fine save from out new goal keeper Dylan Whatley (who was our man of the match) but the rebound landed to a Wickersley man who slotted home! Another chance came and went for Clifton who knew by this time it wasn’t our day.
All the lads worked hard and showed the desire that is needed to perform well. The lads effort and attitude was again a credit to Clifton.
