The year 8’s took to the field last night in the Rotherham Cup against Rawmarsh who we beat on route to last year’s cup final.
As soon as the game kicked off we were on the front foot and in control of the game. In a half of very few chances where our defence was very much dominant and limited Rawmarsh to a few shots from distance. We pushed on in the final 15 minutes and after a barrage of corners and long throws the ball dropped to Finley on the edge of the area who smashed it into the bottom corner!
The second half kicked off and we started sloppy, giving the ball away too easily. After 5 minutes we got back into the swing of things and started to play our game again, pressing the ball at every opportunity. Halfway through the second half, Rawmarsh created a few chances and if not for a brilliant save from Dylan the game would have been level. With 10 minutes to play the ball landed to Finley again on the edge of the area who rifled a shot that was brilliantly tipped onto the post only for Josh to smash the ball home from a yard out, 2-0! Despite an onslaught from Rawmarsh in the final 5 minutes, our defence stood firm and we created the best of the remaining chances through Marian who skipped past two defenders and produced a fine save from the keeper. The score remained 2-0 and the final whistle went to the delight of the lads who continue their cup run!
The lads attitude and commitment today was exceptional, with the result being fully deserved! Everyone played brilliantly but the stand out players were Nader at right back who was calm and composed, and Owen who played in midfield for the first time and reminded me of a young Andrea Pirlo. Owen fully deserved the Man of The Match award!
Please congratulate the lads on their win!
