A Story of Motown at RCAT

Last night 12 musicians from Y10 and Y11 visited RCAT to watch the first year L3 BTEC Music students perform their first show, ‘A Story of Motown’. The pupils were a credit to Clifton, and really enjoyed watching musicians in the next stage of their musical studies. We also had the pleasure of seeing some ex-Clifton musicians performing on stage! Pupils also had a talk from Music staff at RCAT about the L3 BTEC courses on offer to raise their aspirations.

A brilliant night, and we are looking forward to going to more shows in the future!

Snowflake Project Trip

Last night members of the student council were invited to the Children’s hospital light switch on in Sheffield. The girls represented Clifton brilliantly. They enjoyed a tour around the new part of the hospital and a presentation by the charity.
As a school, we are one of thirty that has helped raise over thirty thousand pounds this Christmas, our contribution being £1052. Please share this in FTT, the student council are keen for all students and staff to celebrate the success together.

Y8 Tapas Trip to The Olive Lounge In Wickersley

On Thursday, thirty Y8 students visited ‘The Olive Lounge’ in Wickersley as part of their module on Spanish food.

The students were extremely well behaved and were a credit to Clifton. The waiters called out the dishes in Spanish and the students were very enthusiastic about using Spanish to order further dishes (and ask for the dessert menu!).

A really great afternoon was had by all involved. The students returned very excited by the experience!

Sheffield University Campus Visit 2017

A group of 20 students from Y9 and Y10 have been selected to be part of the US in Schools programme, led by Sheffield University. This will involve them having a weekly session with their University Mentor in school throughout this year. Students have been selected based on their academic success, with them all having grades that show they are capable of attending university in the future. Throughout the year, the programme will enable them to understand the opportunities available to them in later life and break any misconceptions they have about whether they can attend university.

Part of the programme involved attended a mentoring day at Sheffield University, where they took part in various challenges, winning prizes for most creative ideas, and were shown around by their University Mentors in order to get an insight into University life in Sheffield. A great day was had by all; our students were a credit to Clifton and their families. Well done Mentees of 2017/18 – keep up the excellent attitude to learning and you will go far!
