Y8 Bow Out At The Quarter Final Stage

Y7 enjoyed a well fought and by what we saw a well-deserved victory. Unfortunately, the Y8 team couldn’t emulate the same success, crashing out with a 0 – 6 home defeat.

The boys for the first 20 minutes held their own, with both teams jostling for possession, Roman Bogdan was superb tonight in the middle of the park, tough tackles and trying his best to move the ball for the forwards to run into the channels. Unfortunately, two quick goals from the opposition saw our heads go a little, Bernards adding a third before half-time.

The most impressive thing was that we had 16 lads turn up tonight, so we decided to change things so they all got a game, some playing in new positions as we gambled and rode our luck to try and get back in contention. But the second half saw weary heads and legs, conceding another three, all through balls which the keeper did his best to smoother.

All in all, I was proud of the boys, quarterfinals are nothing to sniff at in the South Yorkshire Cup, we all wish the very best to St Bernards in the semi-final.

Well done to the Y7’s below who took part:

Clifton In Action Away At St Bernards

The Y10 boys were in action this week in an away fixture at St Bernards.  The team started the game against the wind and had trouble getting out of our own half before Amaan Ghani drew a smart save from the opponents goalkeeper.

St Bernards missed 2 open goals as the action began to swing from end to end.  The team went in at the break a goal behind after a good finish. Rio Barker in goal then made a good save. Clifton fancied their chances in the second half and pushed for the equaliser. Brendan Walker went close and Louis Waterhouse fired over. Unfortunately as Clifton threw more and more players forward we were caught on the break and a long clearance resulted in a one on one well dispatched to double the St Bernards advantage.

The Y10 lads tried their best to get back into it and Amaan Ghani and Connor Coady both had good chances narrowly missed.

A very pleasant evening with a well contested game and a good spirit from both sets of players.

Back to the 80s!

Back to the 80s! was a HUGE success this week at Clifton Community School.

Students have been working since October to prepare the fabulous production which saw many students pushed outside their comfort zones and deliver an outstanding performance on both nights.
The audience were in awe of the energy, determination and talent of all students involved in making this performance a night to remember. The whole cast were acting, singing and dancing their way through the performance which had the audience laughing, crying and dancing in their seats – all at the same time!
The American High School based story line was backed up with 80s classic pop songs, delivered very professionally by our students, culminating in a well-deserved standing ovation! Thank you to all involved and all those who came to support our cast.

Y8’s Netball – Clifton Away At Wickersley

Cup Final Here We Come!

Fantastic performance from the lads winning 4-3 on penalties.

The game started with Clifton on top attacking up hill, after missing a few chances a definite penalty was awarded to Clifton to where Jensen was denied by an unbelievable save from the St Bernard’s keeper. Moments later we took the lead with a header from Finley and soon after doubled our lead with a great touch and lob from Josh. 2-0 at HT.

The second half was tough with St Bernard’s pressing and us looking tired, they pulled it back to 2-2 but lads dug deep to keep it at 2-2 until FT.

Penalties were next… Some brilliant penalties scored and saved from Luke Steane. After 10 penalties each, it was back to Finley to step up and score, it was all down to Luke who pulled off a fantastic save to send Clifton to the final. Sending everyone into mass celebration with tears flying around everywherem with almost a tear shed from myself and Mark.

What a fantastic evening with so much support from both pupils and staff. There must have been over 80 – 100 children and at least15 staff coming to watch which made winning all that better and really showed what a fantastic spirit is around Clifton.

We can not wait for the final!!!

Please congratulate the lads on this fantastic achievement.
