Shoebox Rainbox Creations in Geography

Y9 Geography students recently showed their creative sides when making their very own shoebox rainforest as an end of topic task. Students were given a criteria to work too to make their rainforests were as accurate as possible. Some chose to to work alone, others in groups. All worked very well and came up with some fantastic designs with the winning team of Richard Mroc and Marek Sivak. Well done to all.

Army Residential

At the start of the Easter Holidays, 20 Y10 students, accompanied by Mrs Wade, Miss St-Pierre, Miss Hughes and Mr Davies attended an Army residential at Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire and they had an absolutely incredible experience and did themselves and Clifton proud. The students had some amazing experiences and they all pushed themselves harder than they thought possible and tried their best in every activity. They all learnt loads about themselves and showed an impressive amount of resilience.  The students had the opportunity to take part in a combat shooting range, a variety of command tasks, had real-life experiences working with snipers and the camouflage team, military police (they had to chase and arrest a suspect, search the scene, a car and interview a witness) the medics and Royal Engineers. On the second night, after a really long day, they travelled to a different barracks and took part in a range of sporting challenges and on the final morning, the students all attempted the assault course which every single one of them had a good go at. They supported each other to get through it and worked hard as a team to make sure that nobody was left behind.

At the end of the course, there was a presentation and some prizes were awarded as follows;

Overall best boy – Hikmat

Overall best girl – Jessie

Best shot male – Josh

Best shot female – Jessie

Endeavour Award – Jamie

The Colonel who presented the award described the students as impeccable and I couldn’t think of a better word to describe them. We are really looking forwards to our next opportunity and a large proportion of the students have asked to go again!

Movement Evening 2019

A spectacular celebration of dance was performed at the annual Movement Evening on 8th and 9th April. All 130 performers danced to a sell out audience. The audience were entertained this year by hard-working students who performed styles from the musicals as well as contemporary, jazz, pop and once again a showcase stopper from the boys. The Y10 trip to London last year to see Chicago obviously had a positive effect on them as dancers replicated the Cell Block Tango dance superbly. The Y9 BTEC dancers demonstrated spoken word for the first time, which blew the audience away with their attempt of creating an emotional response to the word ‘Label’. A great evening overall. Well done to each and every one of the performers.

Maths Incentive

Over the last term, some Year 9 students have been taking part in an incentive league in Maths. This aimed to help students improve on their effort in lessons alongside using Mathswatch at home. Students received points from their teachers and prizes were given based on the final leaderboard. Junaid finished in first place with 171 points, Mohammad was second with 161 and Marija came third with 153 points.

Bag Pack Success

On Saturday morning 23 students gave up two hours of their Saturday to pack bags at Tesco. Our students behaved excellently and were a credit to our school.

In just few hours they have raised £352 for their trip to Spain. That together with the final total for the disco and sweets brings the last fortnight’s fundraising up to £542!

Raffle tickets still on sale up until Thursday! Sweets will be on sale throughout the week too!

Y7 Finish Off The Netball Season On A High

On Wednesday 3rd April, it the final game of the netball season for year 7. The game was a real squad performance with all the girls getting plenty of game time. Danielle and Alisha were solid in defence limiting possession for Rawmarsh. Phoebe Leyla and Leila were dominant in the middle playing some fantastic netball.

The game ended Clifton 5 Rawmarsh 3. A solid end to what has been a fantastic first season for the girls, highlights have included beating Aston, Wickersley and Rawmarsh. All of the girls have been dedicated and an absolute pleasure to work with. They are just getting started and are very keen to build on what they have started this season.

Well done to all of the girls who took part!

Y7 & Y8 Visit Yorkshire Wildlife Park

On Monday, 32 students across Y7 and Y8 had the exciting opportunity to go to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park to support their studies in English. As we approached the Park, the excitement and anticipation was clear to see on the students faces.

During this memorable and thrilling day the students were able to see the animals up close, learn about their eating habits, had talks from animal rangers and then completed the day with an ice-cream.

The whole day was thoroughly enjoyable and the students described the trip as ‘their dream day!’

Year 7-9 Disco With DJ Sparky

Last Friday Clifton held its Annual Easter Disco and raised over £170 for the forthcoming Spanish trip to Calella.
Our very own DJ Sparky (Callum Sparks) in year 10 had the dance floor full of students y7-9 dancing away to their favourite tunes. The photo booth, sweet stall and pin the tail on the rabbit were also popular attractions throughout the evening.
We are already looking forward to the next disco!
