On a fine, fresh Saturday morning the Y7 boys played Oakwood at Middle Lane. Before the game, the player’s morale was still high and all still eager to play despite the results in the past not going our way. As the game started Clifton’s enthusiasm carried on to the pitch, with the first 10 minutes gone and still neither team able to break the deadlock, Gezja managed to wriggle through a few players from the halfway line with his tricky feet, he found himself with a goal scoring opportunity and took it away with a vicious strike!
The boys were really up for the battle ahead. Unfortunately, the lead was short lived as Oakwood pulled a goal back, taking a 3-1 lead at halftime, despite all of the hard work they had put in. A Fergie-
The second half began and after a short time, we scored to make it 3-2. Oakwood then responded with a goal, making sure they weren’t going to lose their lead. 4-2 the game was poised, some full-blooded tackles were going in, mainly from the Kandrack (Neville) twins. We brought it back to 4-3 from a looping free kick. With 10 minutes to go, Clifton managed to break down their defense, a strike towards the net goes and was blocked, but only by the arm meaning we had a chance to level the score up from the penalty spot, Gezja looked confident and tucked it away! Questionable celebration I may add. With little time on the clock, both teams were pressing for a winning goal, Oakwood found themselves with a bit of luck to take the ball away from what only can be described as a game of pinball in the box. Unfortunately, there was no time to respond and the game ended 5-4.
Well done to everyone who took part!
