Finesse in the Field but Batting Proves a Battle!!

Mr Davis and I took a mixed Y9/10 team to Oakwood for a lovely evening of cricket.  Sofian won the toss and elected to field first.  Being conscious that this was our first (and perhaps last) full fixture I was conscious to give as many lads experience as possible and with a talented bunch this didn’t really affect our performance.

Standout bowlers were Mohammad Kashif who took 2 in 2 balls, narrowly missing out on a hat-trick and Omar Shafia with a very well-bowled maiden.  In the field there was an outstanding catch from Akaash and a fantastic run out by Said.  We bowled and fielded very well to restrict Oakwood to 74 runs.

Oakwood were much more talented with the ball than the bat and it was clear to see why they are playing in a semi-final tomorrow.  We started quite well with Akaash smashing one to the long boundary for four but then we stalled slightly, unable to find boundaries until Hikmat came in and hit a 4 followed by a 6 which got us back in the running.  Unfortunately it was just a bit too much and we came up 16 runs short.

A very pleasant, competitive match.  Well done to all the lads and thanks to Mr Davis for umpiring so I could shout encouragement from the sidelines!!
