Recently Staff from Clifton Community School attended the Princes Trust Celebrate success awards at the Grand theatre in Leeds.
We were there to support and celebrate the success of Mathew Housley who was nominated by Clifton School along with hundreds of other students for the Educational Achiever of the year award.
This award recognises young people who have been on the Princes Trust XL programme and have overcome significant personal barriers to develop new skills which enable them to reengage with Education.
Mathew is in his own words was spiralling out of control had anger issues and was at risk of being permanently excluded. With support from School as a team he has completely turned his life around. Mathew worked on his Princes Trust Award with Mrs Rita Marshall who put in countless hours to mentor and support Matt to complete his award. This was recognised last night with Mathew reaching the final of the Yorkshire and Humber section of the award. Mathew did not win the overall award but was shortlisted in the top three and was the first up on the stage to shake hands and congratulate the eventual winner. I and the team from Cranworth were very proud of Mathews achievements and agreed he was a credit to our school.
The night was inspirational and the stories behind all of the finalists was uplifting.
