We had an incredible day on Saturday as our school cart entered the 2nd running of the Clifton Park soap box derby.

The cart had been modified/ improved in bearings and aerodynamics since last year when we came 4th. We new it would be quick…..

So this year we went 2 better and came 2nd overall! Out of 27 carts we were the only young person entry and many were engineering work builds or home enthusiast projects.

Reece Lumley was our demon driver with Jack Johnson and the young Mr Brown acting as midway pushers….allowed to give the cart a mid-course speed boost. After the first run we knew were in contention, making the final run a high-pressure affair. Reece drove the extended chicane and tight left hand corner like Lewis Hamilton, whilst taking on the jump more like Evil Kineval. He finished the run with an amazing doughnut finish, demonstrating his expert handling skills!

If you were there then thanks for the cheers.

The engineering team involved on the build was Reece Lumley and Jack Johnson. They were the main contributors on the build and received guidance (and a little inspiration!) from Mr Brown and Mr Bramley….thanks go out from all of us from the extra time put in after hours helping out.
