The Y8 Football team were well beaten this evening in their tussle against St Bernard’s. The boys are still adapting to playing on grass having spent most of last season on a flat Astro turf surface.
Our Year 11 Boys traveled to Dinnington for their second game of the season where we came away with the victory that our play deserved. Read more
Y8 has a new scoring hero. He’s a student who came in from Spain in the summer transfer window. He wears neon pink boots. His name is Oscar.
The Y8 lads played on a full-size pitch for the first time, given the Grass pitch at Clifton is a 9 a side one. This didn’t, however, deter them from having a good go. The boys impeccably behaved on their first away fixture and showed real character after to going behind early, a fantastic goal which the keeper could do nothing about.
The game was what you might describe as a physical encounter. Our lads got stuck into the Wath team, hustling and jockeying the players and winning challenges fairly. although Ibby Bostan did catch a lad in the face with his boot by accident.
The game was littered with chances, Jamie Hartley in the second half produced an amazing double save from 6 yards out which kept them in it.
With about two minutes to go, a one-two from Oscar and Logan played Oscar clean through, which he dribbled around the keeper and rolled it into the net. The lads all raced to him and celebrated. Wath was devastated, we had threatened all game, and didn’t deserve to lose.
The lads showed great maturity when the whistle went, shaking hands with the players and doing the three cheers without prompt.
It was great to see the lads actually talking and encouraging each other. The best game so far this season. It felt like a win.
So next we go to Thrybergh. Perhaps we’ll do another away day!
Well done to the students below who took part:
Oscar Santana (MOTM)
Logan Hewitt (Captain)
