Translation Bee TRIUMPH!

Yesterday afternoon Tehreem (y9) and Tehmeed  (y8) competed in the Translation Bee Regional final at Sheffield Hallam University.

This competition is similar to Spelling Bee but this time students are expected to translate entire sentences in three tenses in one minute.

The talent was incredible and standards were so high and consequently there were tie breakers at every stage. Despite this, I am absolutely thrilled to announce that our girls placed 2nd (Tehmeed, y8) and 4th (Tehreem, y9) out of 4440 students!!!

They will both go onto represent our school at Cambridge University.

Spelling Bee Final at Sheffield Hallam

On Tuesday 30th April 2019 our Spelling Bee finalists visited Sheffield Hallam to compete in the Regional final.

The students performed excellently and despite being very nervous placed 5th, 8th and 9th out a whopping 1916 students!

This year the students have participated in the Spelling Bee as an extracurricular club which has taken huge dedication to learn 150 words in their own time and also to practise during their breaks throughout the week. This shows huge dedication to their learning.

The students were such a credit to our school and were extremely encouraging to other contestants by cheering them on, complementing them and congratulating them on their success. Adults commented on how cheerful, polite and friendly our girls were. They were really genuinely pleased for the winners and were desperate to have another go! They are already asking about if they can take part in heat eight. A pleasure to watch them compete.

Well done to the students who took part!

Spelling Bee Stars

On Thursday 14th February 2019 our year 7 Spelling Bee class winners took part in the school competition in which they had to translate and spell as many words in Spanish in one minute in front of peers and some parents.
At the start of the week students struggled to spell hardly any of the words and with lots of encouragement and practise at breaks and after school and all I can say is they have really pulled it out of the hat!!! They did exceptionally well and all gave it a really great go. Their determination to turn it around has amazed us!
Our top three winners will now go onto represent the school at Sheffield Hallam University in April.
Well done to everyone who took part, excellent work by all!

The Spanish Spelling Bee

Yesterday, 12 year seven students took part in stage 2 of the Spanish Spelling Bee. The students were absolutely incredible and stood up in front of their peers to translate a selection of 100 words from English into Spanish and then spell them in Spanish. The students showed a huge amount of confidence and determination and they should be extremely proud of their achievement.

The three winners of this stage of the competition will now go on to represent Clifton School at the regional final.

If you see any of the Bees (names below) around school please do congratulate them!! I have attached some videos/photos of the school final.
