Year 10 Football Against Wickersley

We approached our away fixture at Wickersley in confident mood having defeated them last time we met.  It was the home side who started the game in positive fashion though and our back line was repeatedly tested. Our best work came on the break and but we were limited to speculative efforts as Wickersley brought the game to us. We conceded from a simple goal with some poor marking in our area leaving a free header from a corner.
We began the second half in much more positive mood and didn’t take long to equalise with a brilliant piece of vision from Chad Carney. From 30 yards out he spotted the home keeper off his line and measured up a shot which dipped over his head.
1-1 and it should have been game on but we fell asleep from kick off and conceded immediately. From this point the home side tried to push home the advantage. Skipper Jamie Hartley was twice called into action to clear off the line while Ephraim Kianga in goal pulled off a string of fine saves.
We were unable to prevent the third goal going in though and from that point it was game over. Credit to the lads though who continued to show excellent spirit and work hard. 3-1 was a fair reflection of the balance of play but we gave it a real go and it was nice to see the effort from the boys!
